Bothrops asper , other wise known as the Feared Fer-De-Lance; is a venomous pit viper species ranging from southern Mexico to northern South America. Sometimes referred to as the "ultimate pit viper", these snakes are found in a wide range of lowland habitats, often near human habitations. Its proximity to human habitations is likely the reason why it is considered more dangerous to humans than others.
The facts..Simply a deadly viper, that is not to be messed with!!! It is alarming of the number of these in costa Rica, especially since they lay in wait to ambush their prey, or some unsuspecting human that is unfortunate enough to walk within their strike range. Death, and severe limb damage Statistics are quite high in the rural areas of this viper's habitat.
