En su área de influencia viven alrededor de 2,5 millones de personas, mayoritariamente de habla germánica. Constanza es la ciudad más grande, a orillas del lago y con más de 80.000 habitantes. Constance Lake is surrounded by Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The Rhine River enters the lake from the south (Austria) and rises in the west, marking the border between Germany and Switzerland. In its catchment area live about 2.5 million people, mostly German-speaking. Constance is the largest city on the banks of the lake and with more than 80,000 inhabitants. Across the city, the Rhine leaves Lake, contact the North Sea. Some prominent places in the surrounding area are Bregenz, Lindau and Meersburg.
