I went through a time about a decade ago that I was having some throat problems (I'm one of those fiery preachers :) ). The throat specialist I saw so that in the dead of winter it is as dry here as the Sahara. That came back to me as I looked at this scene in the cold, crisp air. The wind-driven snow does look like wind-driven sand. But at -22C, it was decidedly more cold than the Sahara. We'll just call it the Northern Desert.
