If you're heading out to Zion National Park, I'd highly recommend a short diversion to Snow Canyon State park near the city of St. George.
The scenery is gorgeous: red rock canyons, white and yellow sandstones, green grasses, dunes.... a great place to warm up your camera before the main event!
