Pha That Luang (The Great Stupa) is a gold-covered Buddhist stupa in the centre of Vientiane, Laos. It is estimated that it was initially constructed in the 3rd century, and has undergone several reconstructions until the 1930s following a number of destructive invasions. It is generally regarded as the most important national monument in Laos. Shortly before dusk, the golden stupa glows in the setting sun.
