I never cease to amaze myself with the new heights (or lows?) of ineptitude I manage to attain. It's like putting a black hole at the bottom of a toilet. It may not sound like much, but after forgetting my tripod in the car on one hike to Triple Falls and leaving it behind at Starvation Creek Falls during another a couple years ago (and having been blessed with the dumb luck to have somehow recovered it after the hike), I vowed never to forget this vital and spendy piece of long-exposure equipment again. Well, pfffttttt. All told, then, I don't think this is too bad a comp given my constraints that day, as I somehow managing to balance the camera steadily enough atop my backpack and folded-up umbrella while I set my keister down on some slick waterlogged timbers with legs akimbo to keep from falling in the cold, cold drink.

As per my usual, I was struggling to come up with a name for this piece, not wanting to venture into the cheesified land of "Tall Soda" or something like that, when Pandora threw a little U2 at me on the drive home from work one day. I thought it apropos for this 134-foot triple-decker, as I can't quite fully wrap my head around the physics-defying way the falls' column lists to the right on the way down. In fact, the angle taken here actually de-accentuates the sidewinding course quite a bit.

But it's alright, it's alright, it's al-right...
