I was just tinkering with designing a workshop on lighting people in landscapes for environmental portraiture and came across this image of a Samba babu (grandfather) sitting beside his maze patch in Tanzania's Usambara Mountains. It is one of the more technically challenging images I've ever created as well as one of my favorites. I employed off camera flash, colored gels, and a graduated neutral density filter to get this scene balanced with the warm backlight. The babu was such a warm spirited patient man that the whole process was a joy.
