The west coast of British Columbia or should I say the wet coast receives more than its fair share of rain, especially during the winter months. A positive result of a lot of rain is the temperate rain forest. I find that the intense greens of mosses and epiphytes that grow in the forest to be great subjects for photography. By their very nature forests are chaotic and photographing them effectively challenging. I managed to isolate the vine maple in this photo by using a 500mm lens on my 4x5. The open shade created by light clouds gave me the perfect soft luminance that I needed for the shot.
