It started to snow and we went for a late afternoon walk underneath the overhead train M train in Brooklyn, venturing toward Flushing Avenue for some beer. I love to photograph in the snow. Often I will photograph until my fingers become numb.

Way down the road, I saw the pattern of the umbrella and headscarf against the shuttered stores, and I picked up my pace a bit to try and catch it. However, it was the young girl, off in her own imagination, which caught my eye. As she raised her arm to inspect the snow falling on her coat, I dropped the camera down to my chest and shot the photo with the screen.

I always worry about photographing children; I have been attacked a few times on the street. It seems you are a pervert, pedophile, or terrorist if you have a camera. I have found that the Mexicans in the neighborhood do not mind.
