"Torment" is a depiction of my own inner torment as an artist, and as a person. Without getting into the bleak details, sometimes we all face our inner demons and feel as if we cannot escape the prison of our own mind.

On a completely different level, this scene was my *literal* prison for nearly an hour while gang members hunted for me through the ruins of the abandoned brewery I was shooting in. The dragged pipes along rails, tried to flush me out by pretending to have moved on, etc. Eventually I made a strategic retreat through the ruins with gun drawn and was fortune enough to meet no resistance. A nerve wracking morning...

TECHNICAL DETAILS

This is actually a composite created from a single frame shot in a near-black hallway. The color is left untouched from the camera, and was a combination of the sun shining into the yellow-tiled hallway from an orange walkway (ceiling crumbled in) beyond the window at the far end. While shooting I saw dark Silent-Hill like images in my head and took the base shot home to complete it.

In post, I flipped the image on its side and mirrored it - then destroyed most obvious points of symmetry to complete the illusion. It leaves enough behind to keep you hunting, but not enough to be readily apparent.
