Located in the North Coyote Buttes in the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness in Arizona, the Wave is an amazing sandstone formation that formed into compacted rock from sand dunes over millions of years.

The Bureau of Land Management limits access to the Wave to 20 people per day to preserve the natural beauty of the area. As of early 2011, the process involved 10 permits being distributed via lottery 4 months in advance and the remaining 10 permits being distributed the morning before via drawing at the BLM office. After obtaining 2 of the permits from the lottery 4 months prior, and after the wait, the anticipation, and the multiple weather dances, the Wave was a reality! The colors, curves, shadows, reflected light, and secluded atmosphere of this area are truly an experience to be savored.
