The pure Wahweap towers bathed in early morning light. Hoodoos are composed of soft, sedimentary rock capped off by harder stone that protects the underlying column from erosion and degradation. In order to get to the site,we took the front entrance pass through the Wahweap wash, a 5 mile hike, which we had to hike in the dark after waking up at 2:30am in order to arrive at the location by sunrise. After spending all day at the Wave the day before, the hike was not as easy as it was supposed to be added with the fact that we got lost, and we just barely made the sunrise. However, the soft rays lighting up the towers were rejuvenating, and the scene unfolding before us with each tower slowly illuminating was simply breathtaking. There is only about a 5-10 minute window when all 3 pillars shine with light before the back wall is washed out.
