The piccolo (called also piccolo, of the Italian flauto piccolo: ' small flute ') is a wind instrument wood in Do's tonality. It is a question of a small flute. The sound of the piccolo is penetrating and is characterized by his sharp tone. In fact, the piccolo has the sharpest stamp of all the orchestral instruments.

The sonority of the piccolo, specially in the highest notes, is very penetrating, for what it stands out though all the instruments are being executed.
There can be made quite of metal or of wood the body and the keys and metal mouth.

In spite of this constant presence of the piccolo, produced by his sharp sound, the piccolo can be in use for interpreting so much delicate and calm as happy and powerful pieces.
It is in use in the orchestras, though more frequently in the military bands.
