An interesting effect from the camera phone is this. Many years ago you could not pull out a camera inside a casino without quickly making a new friend telling you that photography is not allowed. The camera phones are so prevalent now that no one prohibits other types of cameras from being used. This logic also plays out in other situations since camera phones are seen as non-threatening. The same cannot be said for larger cameras. This is one of the main strengths of the camera phone.
Back story: It’s time for something different for me. I got a new camera recently, a Fujifilm X-E1, but shortly before that I got the most widely used camera I saw on vacation last week – the smartphone camera. In my case it’s an iPhone (and a few photo apps). I have been reading about pro photographers going off on trips or assignments and using their phones to record images. I also have read that some stock agencies have begun to allow submissions from camera phones. I thought, why not? I like new shooting experiences. I'll mix it up.
