I spent almost a week on the big island of Hawaii with my homie Miles Morgan and the lava gurus from www.extremeexposure.com, Bruce Omori and Tom Kualii. Great friends, and even better photographers. The trip was like no other shooting endeavor I had ever taken. NOTHING can prepare you for your first time out to shoot the lava flows. Easily, some of the sketchiest shooting I've ever done... and if it weren't for Bruce and Tom, I'd probably have been burnt up to a crisp in some wicked lava accident. There's a reason those guys are some of the few people legally allowed to guide people out there... because they know what they are doing. If you head out there to shoot lava, you'll NEED these guys to show you the ropes! This is my favorite from the trip. It was some brutal shooting, but I don't think I've ever had more fun. The beautiful light, glowing lava, and dramatic steam plume made up for being pounded by chest high waves, getting tiny shards of sharp lava rock imbedded in my skin, and having smoldering chunks of lava strewn about my feet.
