Cholla cactus catch light from the morning sun shining through dramatic peaks of the Kofa mountains. Photographing in a patch of chollas is a frustrating experience. They have an uncanny ability to attach spikey balls of barbed needles to your shoes and clothes. I had to use a rock to get them off because you can't just grab the little suckers! They are sharp, and the needles are super rigid. I actually had one go all the way through the bottom of my shoe. As much of a pain in the ass they can be, they sure are interesting to look at... especially back-lit!
