If looks could kill…That’s what I was thinking as I photographed this Burrowing Owl in Cape Coral, FL. Although, truth be told, this guy really wasn’t too interested in me, he actually spent 90% of his time looking left, then quickly right. Every now and then he’d cast an evil eye in my direction, and it was during those fleeting moments that I snapped away as fast as I could! These owls are accustomed to people and have very little fear of them. In fact, their lack of fear can actually work against you as a photographer. Most of the time I like the critter to at least look in the general direction of the camera, but my slow approach combined with a lengthy working distance really put this fella at ease. It took a LONG time before he finally decided to glance my way, but that’s the only way to do it. Never put any pressure on an animal, let them do thir thing in their time.I’m just glad he finally shot a glance my way!See more of my work at:www.backcountrygallery.com
