I loved how the mist made the yellow, blue and purple lights glow. Within another minute or so of this shot the entire top was shrouded in mist and all you could see was a nebulous, multicolored glow.
I had no idea why it was decorated with that lighting scheme, but I knew I could look it up easily enough.
On many nights during the course of the year, the ESB changes its standard white lighting scheme to different combinations of colors for all sorts of reasons. For instance, this Friday, Saturday and Sunday it will be lit up in red, white and blue in honor of Veteran's Day.
So off to the interwebs I traveled and found out tonight's lights were in honor of Only Make Believe. On their website they describe themselves as "a non-profit organization that creates and performs interactive theatre for children in hospitals and care facilities. Only Make Believe is dedicated to the principle that freeing a child's imagination is a valuable part of the healing process."
Beyond seeing a cool scene and trying to photograph it adequately, I think it's cool that I also learned about a wonderful organization I had never heard about - and if you didn't know about them either, now you do too. :)
