Yes, it was as cold as it looks! I had no snowshoes at the time (this day made me decide to get some), so it was really slow going across this plateau of the Kamnik Alps. The snow was quite deep, and the wind kept kicking up in strong gales every few minutes, plus I was schlepping a lot of camera gear. I wanted to create a composition that communicated how remote and surreal this place seemed to me, changed as it was by the overnight blizzard. The wonderful post-storm sky and light made all the trudging quite worthwhile; it kept me entertained all day.
