From where he's pointing, Christopher Columbus Began his journey to Asia, he unexpectedly came across the American continent in 1492.
Earlier "Amerigo Vespucci" reached America. However, he didn't realise that he had come across an undiscovered land. So, the credit went to Christopher Columbus. America is named after Amerigo Vespucci.
