While I do like to believe I have a special relationship with most animals, in fairness I can't read their minds, so I honestly couldn't say whether this was a full-on battle or if they were merely enjoying a little rough and tumble in the cool of the water, though I would guess it was more a case of the latter ;^)

Being that there were a number of visitors aside from myself on the boat that needed to be dropped off at various accommodations along the river, we only got to spend about 15-20 minutes watching these wonderful animals engaged in what I assume was mock battle, but it was a thrilling experience nonetheless and something I appreciated all the more after my second trip to Borneo in May of this year, as although we heard them trumpeting several times in the jungle, we didn't actually get to see a even one.

Bornean Pygmy Elephants are endemic to the northeast of Borneo and since 1982 have been on the endangered species list, even so, their numbers have greatly diminished over the past 30 years largely due to loss of habitat.
