View of the Yosemite Valley from the top of Yosemite Falls.

Yosemite Falls is the tallest waterfall in North America and fifth highest in the world, dropping 2,425 feet. The Upper Fall plummets 1,430 feet to the middle cascade. The cascade tumbles another 675 feet to the Lower Fall, which plunges 320 feet to the valley floor. The Yosemite Falls Trail is one of the park's oldest trails, built in the 1870s. It is a strenuous and challenging hike--leading from the valley floor, up the sheer north wall, to the precipice of Yosemite Falls on the upper plateau. The trail gains 2,700 feet in elevation.
