The "Angel of Waters" statue of Bethesda Foundtain, Central Park, NY, designed by Emma Stebbins in 1868, the first woman to receive commission for a major work of art in the city of New York. The Angel blesses the water below her, commemorating the 1842 opening of the Croton Aqueduct which supplied New York with fresh water, a huge milestone for the modernization of the city and a welcomed change for its inhabitants, a large portion of whom had been forced to drink very unsanitary, contaminated well water.
This is a more dramatic shot of the statue taken the same day as my other photo "Fall[en] Angel", though a bit later. The clouds were moving in from the west so I chose a different perspective. I could hardly believe my luck that the pigeons were still there, posing for me once again!
