The Oystercatcher is a ground nesting bird and it is therefore important when you're out in the field photographing them that you pay particular attention to the birds and their "language." I watched this bird for several minutes and noted that it was wanting to sit down, but it walked away in one direction for about 15 feet, it would then go back to this one spot before heading away in the other direction for about the same distance. This was repeated time after time, always pausing in the centre of walk and always watching me. At both ends of the walk the bird would stamp a foot on the ground before returning another Oystercatcher was swooping overhead and shrieking. These two birds were protecting their nest, both birds will spend time brooding and here they were telling me to leave. Take care when you're out there it's too easy to scare a bird off it's nest.
