My sister Beth, Natalie, and I all decided to head out to the beach yesterday. We had a pretty late start to the day (after a late night of New Years Eve) and finally got on the road around 2 in the afternoon. The sun was dropping really fast, so we skipped lunch and plowed on to Cannon beach. We pulled into the parking lot at hug point, slung our cameras over our back and took off towards a coastal waterfall. Everything was going as planned until we got onto the little used trail, which was not much of a trail. Thick bushes had completely obscured the trail and had created a maze of winding trails. I would not have been surprised if a tiny hobbit would have gone scurrying by through the maze. At times the bushes got so thick that we had to get on our hands and knees and scoot around in the mud in order to get through obstacles. We finally reached a clearing and were surprised by a large muddy cliff that seperated us from the waterfall. Luckily I had a rope, and we tied off to a stump and climbed (or slid) down to the waterfall. By the time we got to the waterfall, we had about 5 minutes to shoot, before we had to turn around and try and get out before it got dark. We climbed back up the rope and got completely disoriented. To be completely honest we had no idea where we were going, and just scooted around on our hands and knees aimlessly. Eventually with the help of Siri (on Natalie's iPhone) we found the road in complete and utter darkness, and thanked God that we hadn't fallen over some random cliff. Although we were sopping wet, covered in mud, and had weeds in our hair, we scrambled over to Pig n Pancake and ate as much as we possible could and then some. We got back on the highway to head home, then turned around and went all the way back to find a gas station. Then we got on the road again when Natalie pointed out how incredible the stars were, so we turned around (again) to head back down to the beach and photographed the famous haystack rock under the milky way. Overall it was quite the adventure, and I am just glad that we made it out!
