This shot almost didn't happen. I arrived at midnight thinking I'd sleep at the trail head, have a nice easy hike in the morning, and be able to shoot the falls in the area and move on. (I had a packed itinerary.)

Unfortunately the road wasn't open for the season yet. It was going to be a good 12 mile round trip if I hiked, and I didn't have time to devote that much of my day. So I decided to skip the area and keep moving. On my way out I saw a mountain lion, which I was pretty stoked about!

Leaving without a shot nagged at me so 2 days later on the return, I decided to devote the time and hike it. To my surprise the road was opened much further and the long hike wasn't necessary. While shooting the area I was treated to this amazing light show.
