Ramona Falls · Mt. Hood National Forest · Rhododendron · Oregon · USA
I thought I’d go back to the archives a bit and remembered that I had a bevy of images from my Ramona Falls hike back in early June 2011 still waiting to be processed. Now, I’m not normally one to toot my own horn (at least I hope I’m not), but I have to admit, this one turned out better than I ever could have hoped for. It was, from a camera’s perspective, a highly contrasty scene, and I figured that even with HDR-processing the highlights would still be hopelessly blown out and/or the shadows remain hopelessly deep. Anyone who’s ever been to Ramona Falls knows what I’m talking about—as incredibly photogenic as it is, it’s technically a nightmare to capture and still do it justice. Fortunately, the fusion was smooth and solid, with only a minor layering with the least exposed frame needed to preserve the highlights in the falls without compromising the dappled sunlight elsewhere.
As it turned out, the nightmare became a dream.
