A supercell thunderstorm rolls off into the distance moments before another came overhead near Rozel, Kansas. After a week with almost no severe weather on the great plains all hell broke loose. This was the first day of severe weather and it all went downhill from here. We were eating lunch the following day and noticed a huge storm powering towards us on radar just outside of Oklahoma City. We saw the storm that destroyed Moore OK and many many more that day whilst trying to remain in a safe position rather than observe the insane amount of storms. We had one particularly worrying moment where we had to pick which storm of three supercells we needed to drive through to get back into safety. Not at all fun at the time. When heading out to the plains to witness these incredible storms one always hopes to encounter them well away from settled areas and observe them causing minimal damage. What happened in a couple of towns, especially Moore was shocking for sure. It was for sure the right decision to get well out of the way of those storms and back into the countryside.
