I have a strong affection for badlands. They are fascinating geologic formations and make excellent subjects for photography, including grand scenic landscapes and abstract views like this one. The Paria Badlands in Utah are some of the most beautiful badlands I have seen. The colors are almost unreal - pinks, purples, yellows, blues, and greens. In the early morning, the soft light helps bring out pastel colors and later in the day, direct sunlight turns these hills to dark shades of red and purple.
