This beautiful lady was the third leopard we encountered of four leopards in all during my two-week visit to the Masai Mara last month. It was just after 7 am while I was happily capturing images of four little lion cubs walking with their mother (same ones you can see three images back on my page) when the call came in over the radio of a leopard sighting.
For as much fun as I was having with those cubs, with the sun coming up to its zenith of golden morning light, there was no contest to consider in my mind, and within moments we were off.
We arrived just in time to see her meandering her way toward a long stretch of thicket that allowed me just enough opportunity to catch a few frames. I suggested to my guide that we swing around to the other side in case she was walking through, which as it turns out is exactly what she did. By now other vehicles had followed suit though, so I only has moments again to catch a few more frames before the lady decided she would have more peace by returning back into the bushes and keeping out of sight until everyone's patience was lost and all had moved on.
The best opportunities that Mother Nature offers on safaris can so easily turn out to be short-lived, but even a handful of images captured of these fleeting moments can rekindle the most pleasurable of memories for a lifetime.
