That's the few you have from the Belfry tower (83 meters high, 366 steps, no elevator, of course). On the left you have the oldest square around wich Bruges was founded around 900. the white building on the left is the old palace of justice, the smaller building on the right is the old office of the clercks. Right from it : the nicest building with a superb façade : our town hall with a breathtaking Gotic hall. The 4th building, near the bottom of the picture is the Chapel of the Holy Blood. It is a "double chapel" : the lower part is romanesque style and was for the "poor" people. The second part is very luxureous, in Ghotic style, destinated for "the better situated". The chapel can be visited and, if you find that important enough, you can touch the relic of the Holy Blood. In de lower middle of the picture, we see 4 boats. To the left from the boats there is a stranly chaped building along the water, partly painted in white partly in bricks. This is the famous hotel & restaurant DUC de BOURGOGNE (Duke of Burgondie). In the middle of the picture, you have a very low, white rectangular building with a simple black roof and a higher part for the gate. This is the old fish market. The church you see on the right is the Sint-Magdalenakerk, near the "botanic garden" you can easily see the trees). In front of the church, there are new buildings with a grey roof. Untill a few years ago, our jail stood here. Now we have a new, larger jail outside the town (last year, a few convicts escaped with the help of a helicopter !) and the site is now a large park of apartments and flats with a large, public carparc in the underground. My own house must almost be visible on this picture. Almost since there are a few bigger houses that hide mine (I know because I checked it a couple of times when I was up there !). On the horizon, at the left, you see another church tower with, if you can see it, a flat roof. That is the little town of Damme (my name is Vandamme ; Van-damme, meaning : from Damme. So, one of my ancestors certainly lived in Damme, once upon a time. By clear weather, and looking to the north-west, you should be able to see the North Sea !
