Night fades to morning in this half-hour exposure of South Dakota's Badlands towering over balsamroot blooms.

Okay, so technically, only the sky was a half-hour. Because of wind, you might think? Nope! It was basically a perfectly still morning. The foreground flowers and land are from a 30-second exposure taken immediately after the half-hour one, because...

...The D7100 is terrible, terrible, terrible with long exposure noise. Despite having nearly identical histograms, both being at ISO 100, and long exposure noise reduction being run on the half-hour one; the 30-second exposure was still 3-4 stops cleaner. (And my complaint is valid, because I just did some 30-minute exposures with a D7000 in similar light, and they're clean as a whistle).
