Riomaggiore at Sunrise. Cinque Terre, Italy

This was by far my favorite place we visited on our trip to Italy. The town of Riomaggiore is so quaint and peaceful. All the locals are very nice and the town only becomes active when the church bells ring around 8am. The was shot during blue hour in the morning and I had the entire town to myself.

What's unique about this image is that I had to blend together three different images, but not just by shutter speed. For the town I used a small aperture (f/20) to create the starburst effect in the lights and get everything nice and sharp. For the boats in the foreground I had to shoot wide open at f/2.8 and crank my ISO up to get an exposure fast enough to freeze the boats in place. Then another for the sky.
