Near Manyar Beach, Ketewel, Bali. So at 5.30 am we were walking about the dark, looking for a bunch of palm trees that others had framed in their picture, iPhone clenched in hand. The guide told us "this is Ketewel" and true it was, yet the place we were hunting for was nowhere to be found. After 5 minutes of hunting around with a small torchlight we decided to chance it and proceed on to the next turn. The driver missed the turn with the sign and stopped eventually, telling us to "walk left". Watching the sun rise in the distance, with less than inspirational light, we walked dutifully. Hearts leaping with joy as we spotted a familiar looking line of trees. But alas, the beautiful set of rocks in those little thumbnails were smothered by the waves. A little alcove with less glamorous rocks would have to suffice. After a few frames, the skies lit up brilliantly, sending beautiful waves of pastels dancing across the skies. I found this composition with my companion framing his shot, just as the waves crashed forward, engulfing me from head to toe. It was all worth it. (The camera was thankfully, still operational afterward)
To the ones who get up at ungodly hours when you travel. Who gets your family clucking and shaking their heads as you scramble around a set of rocks seemingly shooting nothing. Whose heart beats faster when you see beautiful light. Who charge forward into waves gleefully, embracing the surf. This is dedicated to you.
