Yesterday, a couple of friends and I summited the south sister—the most intensive hike I have done to date. The hike to the top of the mountain is 5.5 miles one way, and took us roughly 7 hours to get to the top. With over 5000ft in elevation gain and a 60lb pack, it was brutal and grueling, and I decided to leave much of my pack 2 miles into the climb, where we had decided to camp.
We all crawled up the side of the mountain and painstakingly made it to the top of what we thought was the summit, only to realize that it was a false summit and we had another intense mile of seemingly vertical hiking to go. Finally, we made it to the top, just in time to witness an incredible sunset from within the clouds, and then headed back down to the mountain. While on our way back down the mountain, Top Ramon (the food we had at our camp) filled our conversations. To our great disappointment, we arrived back at camp eager for a big meal, only to find that a bunch of chipmunks had eaten all of our food......

But the hike was totally worth it, and praise GOD for his endless creativity, and the fact that we made it down safe!
