Do you remember the first time you looked up at an unpolluted sky and viewed the wonders of the Galaxy? I remember the first time I did. I was working on my Timelapse film: "EXISTENCE," at Mount Figueroa in Los Olivos, California. We were desperately trying to figure out where the galaxy was going to rise, so that I could do my first ever Milky Way Timelapse. The moment I saw the Galaxy, I knew it would be something I would want to keep photographing for the rest of my life.
On this specific night, my girlfriend brought her sister and her sister's friend up with us. They had never seen dark sky before, and were pretty astonished when we got out of the car. I figured it would be fun to do some portraits of them with my LED headlamp. If you are curious about the attire, it was a hot summer night in California.
I used a short exposure time with very quick and bright flashes, so that the model would be still and not blurry. The light was mostly being produced from behind. This was all taken in one single photograph, no compositing.
