A very photogenic landscape but also a very sad view.
The image shows the remains of Geamana village, where in 1978 started copper mining at Rosia Poieni and now the village is turned into a tailings pond. This 200 meters deep lake has swallowed hundreds of houses, a cemetery and in a short time will cover the church once located on a high hill.
Although an operation which is without any profit, tailings continue today to fill the lake and to swallow forests and nearby houses that are still inhabited. The same fate may have Rosia Montana but with a larger ecologic disaster in much larger proportions with a lake about 4 times bigger that will contain cyanide.
