I had a couple of ideas in mind when I ascended this massif, but this shot wasn't one of them. It only occurred to me after I got up there and started scouting around for opportunities for the final sunrise of my trip. After some more strategic exploring, I found this little meadow on a whim one afternoon. When I saw how prominent this mountain looked, I wondered if I might be able to catch the sun rising over it from this vantage point. I was far from any data signals, however, so I couldn't check the alignment in TPE. With my map and compass as my only guides, I just had to hope for the best. So the next morning I hiked back out to the meadow much earlier than necessary, crossing some sketchy terrain by only the light of a headlamp, but I didn't want to be late for the show. Of course, that early arrival made the wait for the sun agonizingly long. For what seemed like an eternity, it appeared as though that fickle fireball was going to pop out on the right side of the mountain instead of cresting its summit. It was a real nail-biter right up until the moment that the sun finally cleared the mountain right where I had hoped it would.
