This was one of the few photos I took at Shoeburyness but in the end I am very happy with the way it has come out.
When I first got there I was surprised how quiet the place was and as I walked along the beach, this massive pier caught my eye. It jutted out into the Thames Estuary for as far as I could see. The original intention was to do a long exposure with my Lee Big Stopper on this pier however the conditions weren't right. It wasn't until after taking this photo that I checked the image and I noticed the eerie outline of a figure on the left. I did look back at the concrete post to have a look again and was caused by rust, phew! :-)
I am not quite sure what the pier was used for as it does not conform to normal pier designs I have seen around the country however it is built next a Garrison as there was a sign to the left of where I was taking this image saying 'Danger Firing Range'. Maybe the pier is linked with the Garrison? Anyone know?
