this was a shot i did of my wife with the intent of practicing the 'painted' style more, which i started with my Self Portrait 813 pictures. she is one of those fancy hair stylists in Toronto who charges way to much for haircuts... but i guess she is worth it!

Entirely inspired by the work of Michael Oswald... unfortunately he can paint and I cant. This didnt turn out looking at all painted as his images do, though im still mostly pleased with the results. I think i went wrong when i brought the contrast way down in camera raw, with the intent of bumping it back up later. somewhere along the lines it got screwed up and i had to paint the light back in by hand.... oy.... which is why i feel it doesnt look quite right.... cause i cant paint.

the original shot was done with 3 lights. 1 rim light camera left, 1 umbrella high centerish as the main light, and a softbox camera right acting as fill. i should have gotten a 4th light in there to be the real rim light on the right, but i was limited by space... so that rim light was painted in as well.

a good learning experience for sure.... but i think i need to learn to paint. shoulda paid more attention in school, haha.
