I promise I wont inundate you with 100 photos of snowy owls, honest. This is the last one. After finding 3 sitting together so perfectly (see last post) it would be hard to top...(well maybe a snowy playing poker with an eagle, or something) but I did like the environmental feel of this one, even though it's just a portrait. BTW, this capture and the shot of the three snowies together are not crops.
I shot this with a Canon 1Ds Mark III with a Canon 800mm lens, using a 1.4x tele so all in, I was at 1120mm. Have to have a very sturdy tripod, frame things up quickly, lock it down and use a cable release in conjunction with the silent shutter mode (Canon feature) to reduce shutter slap/vibration. I was at f/8 and only 160s with ISO cranked to 800. Let's just say conditions were NOT ideal!
