"Let’s stop fearing and exploiting these animals and learn to appreciate them because our own survival is tied to theirs."... true, so true.

If you ever drive up to Namiba, you have to visit the farm where I snapped this shot. It's at the entrance to the Kokerboom Forest. They run a B & B where you can stay and it's a magical place between the captive cheetahs, the meerkats and the Kokerboom trees. You can also get up close and personal with cheetahs at the Cheetah Conservation Fund in northern Namibia. I know the executive director of CCF and it was wonderful getting to witness the running of their cheetahs.

I once was allowed to caress two cheetahs in South Africa and I will never forget their friendliness and the way they approached a stranger in their territory! Thanks for this one, too!

This photo makes me believe that animals can be more friendly and less dangerous than "humans"! The Cheetah's tongue sticking out on his trainer's(?) hands tells the kind of faith he has on him.

Paul, this is so poignantly touching and the story behind it even more special. I am planning on going to Namibia next year to do something as a tribute to my Mom's older brother and will have a look at what I can maybe do here too.

Plan a visit to Etosha National Park in northern Namibia. You can also visit the Cheetah Conservation Fund, which is south of Etosha and just outside of the town of Otjiwarongo. I also love the Kokerboom Forest near Keetmanshoop, which is where I took this photo. Make sure that you book your lodging arrangements well ahead of your trip for these places.

Hey Paul,

Sharing a common connection with all people, eh?
You may be on to something. Try this one:

- Just last week, I co-sponsored Soraya (a cheetah of CCF) through an IT company I work for. I intend to visit her in October.
- 3 days later, you comment on one of my pics
- I decide to check out your 500px page
- This is the 1st pic that caught my eye
- I read your explanation ...you took it at CCF!

It's actually a small place, this town we call "Earth".

Great story, Jochen! I love this connection and thank you as well for sponsoring a cheetah at the Cheetah Conservation Fund. When you visit CCF, arrange for the opportunity to photograph cheetahs running. They run their captive cheetahs early in the morning before the heat of the day to keep them healthy, and for a donation you can watch and photograph them. It is a beautiful experience to watch the run. Take care my friend!
