Sometimes, the feeling of being in a particular place that is of special meaning is difficult to describe. This was one of those times. Water and wind have carved this immense sandstone formation far off the beaten path in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument into a giant seashell over thousands of years. The ethereal light filters through its spiral-like core, setting the sandstone walls aglow and adding texture and color to an already palpable feeling of a supernatural presence.
