With it probably being the last cold day of this recent freeze I head out to the gorge in search of one last shot. I was going to venture out with a fellow Portland photographer, TJ Thorne, on Monday but I was busy on a filming day. I had never been to Mossy Grotto or "Lower Ruckel Creek Falls" but had read that there was a "well-worn path" that photographers take down to the falls. Yeah right.. I think I'd call it not worn at all. Then again everything was covered in snow making things a little more difficult. After about 30 minutes of trial and error I finally found the way down the cliff and began looking for compositions. Since it was warming up any ice that I attempted to walk on collapsed leaving me with ice water in my shoes. That also meant that all the ice that formed on the cliffs started to break off and crash with a bang, so you had to use extreme caution. Besides all the things that went wrong, it was an amazing sight to see, incredibly beautiful! Spent about an hour and a half taking it in and left pretty satisfied.
