Umtanum Canyon Evening: I was spoiled with rocky, desert canyons while living in Arizona for several years. I will always remember them. Fortunately, Eastern Washington has stunning, desert canyons as well. Umtanum Canyon, in the Wenas Wildlife area, is one of them and on a cool, rainy spring day in Seattle we headed over the mountains in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the sun and some
bighorn sheep, or if we were really lucky, a mountain lion. Turned out it was overcast there too. And little wildlife other than the rattlesnakes, which were out in force. The light was uninteresting until the last hour on our way out. I loved this view of a tributary canyon, the two cottonwoods, golden foreground, lush vegetation, and the rust in the cliffs.
