The Seattle Underground is the original street level for Seattle, Washington. Due to the tidal changes of Elliott Bay, Seattle raised the level of its streets during the late 1800's. While the streets were raised the sidewalks and store fronts remained approximately 15 feet below the new street level. As the sidewalks were raised, the "underground" became a less than savory place and would slowly be pushed to extinction. There are still several areas where the underground is accessible and Underground Tour operates the company that providers tours of the underground (http://www.undergroundtour.com/.
