The photo shows the Milky Way high in the sky stretching from east to west. The Large and Small Magellanic Clouds can be seen below the arch of the Milky Way. These two objects are irregular dwarf galaxies and are only visible from the southern hemisphere. The light below the Milky Way to the left is the Cape Palliser Lighthouse, and the small glow on the horizon to the right is the Queen Mary 2 Cruise Ship en-route for Wellington, New Zealand.
