El Parlamento (Országház en húngaro) fue diseñado por Imre Steindl y construído entre 1885 y 1902, siendo el edificio parlamentario más grande hasta entonces y la obra arquitectónica más ambiciosa y costosa de su época. Tiene una longitud de 268 metros y 118 metros de profundidad. Contiene más de 20 km de escaleras, y 691 habitaciones (incluyendo más de 200 oficinas). La cúpula central (ahí se encuentran las joyas de la Corona de Hungría) tiene una altura de 69 metros, y es donde encontraremos los adornos más preciosos.
El edificio se asienta en la ribera del río Danubio. Al planificarse su construcción junto al río, se tuvo que reforzar el suelo con más de dos metros de cimientos dispuestos de forma muy precisa. La fachada principal encara el río Danubio, pero la entrada oficial está justo en el lado contrario. Presenta estatuas de gobernantes húngaros, líderes de Transilvania y famosos militares de la historia del país.
El estilo principal del parlamento es neo-gótico, pero también son claras las influencias renacentistas, y un toque bizantino omnipresente en sus salas y pasillos, especialmente apreciable en la delicadísima decoración de las escaleras que conducen al salón principal. Mediante esta mezcla de influencias se quiso representar las diferentes culturas que han influido y conformado a Hungría a lo largo de sus mil años de historia.

The Parliament (Országház in Hungarian) was designed by Imre Steindl and built between 1885 and 1902, being the largest parliamentary building so far and most ambitious architectural work and expensive of its time. It has a length of 268 meters and 118 meters deep. Contains over 20 km of stairs, and 691 rooms (including more than 200 offices). The central dome (there are the crown jewels of Hungary) has a height of 69 meters, and is where we find most precious ornaments.
The building is located on the banks of the river Danube. In planning its construction along the river, the ground was reinforced with more than two meters from ground very precisely arranged. The main facade faces the river Danube, but the official entrance is on the opposite side. It features statues of Hungarian rulers, leaders and famous Transylvanian military history.
The main style is neo-Gothic parliament, but are also clear Renaissance influences and a touch Byzantine in its halls and corridors, especially noticeable in the delicate decoration of the steps leading to the main hall. Through this mix of influences would represent the different cultures that have influenced and shaped to Hungary along its thousand-year history.
