This is a wild great-horned owl. No bait, no call, no set-up. Just a pure lucky encounter. I hiked 2 hours to a spot to photograph the green headed lorikeets. I knew they lived there because they were loud. Just when I finished setting up the camera, all of them suddenly flew away. Gosh. Two hours of hike. All sweaty carrying the heavy camera gear. I was cursing in my head and wondering what's wrong with my luck. When this giant juvenile great-horned owl landed. Right in front of me. Almost scared the crap out of me. The whole tree almost shaked when he landed. Look at his talons. They have thick fingers! I quickly swallowed my curse and became so thankful for my luck. The owl stayed there for a good minute posing for me. Life was good.
