A few important lessons I learned from this photo of the pier at Old Orchard Beach. 1) Even if you study the tide before setting up your shot, rogue waves happen 2) The old photographer's adage "Never turn your back on the ocean" could also be translated to "Never lose sight of the ocean through the viewfinder" 3) Cameras make terrible swimmers.
